They met the way good things often do—under an open sky, with dogs circling and the quiet sense that something ordinary was about to become anything but.It was a dog park in Kansas, the kind of place where time stretches without asking permission. What began as a simple conversation turned into hours of walking—unhurried, easy, as if the world had gently stepped aside to give them room. Before they parted, Sterling asked Katie a small question that would quietly set everything in motion: “Do you like pizza?”She said yes—enthusiastically—leaving out the parts about being gluten-free and training for a triathlon. Some truths, it turns out, are better revealed later.Their second date unfolded at Il Lazzarone Pizzeria in Kansas City’s River Market, where nerves made even breathing feel like an event. They barely ate the pizza in front of them, too busy studying one another, learning the shape of this new possibility. And then came the Nutella dessert pizza—sweet, indulgent, and disastrously awkward. Nutella found its way onto Katie’s front teeth. She laughed, paused, and asked Sterling if he still thought she was cute. He didn’t hesitate. Of course he did. Maybe even more.After dinner, they walked along the river, the city humming quietly nearby, and talked about love—not as a feeling, but as a choice. Something you decide on, again and again. It was a conversation that would echo forward, long after that night ended.By the third date, they were sitting in a stadium watching the Red Sox play the Royals, the heat relentless, their shirts damp, hunger gnawing. They searched for hot dogs and water, laughing through the discomfort, barely noticing the crowds swelling around them. The world was loud, but somehow it faded. What mattered was sitting shoulder to shoulder, learning each other in real time.The fourth date took them to the Plaza. Over burgers at Shake Shack, Sterling told Katie how much he liked her—no metaphors, no hesitation. Food will be provided, and we’ll have reserved pickleball courts available along with lawn games and outdoor fun. All guests are invited, and kids are welcome. Wedding Day - Adults-Only 9:30 AM – Guest ArrivalGuests will be welcomed with craft coffee and tea—because no one should attend a morning wedding uncaffeinated. 10:30 AM – Ceremony 11:00 AM – Brunch-Style “Cocktail Hour”Mimosas, Bloody Marys, and brunch-inspired hors d’oeuvres to kick off the celebration. 12:00 PM – Seated BrunchA relaxed seated brunch for all guests. 1:30 PM – Dancing &amp; Lawn GamesCelebrate, mingle, and enjoy the afternoon together. Mid-Afternoon – Farewell Send OffThe celebration will naturally wind down in the mid-afternoon, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day or make evening travel plans. AirportFor our loved ones traveling from afar, Kansas City International Airport (KCI) is the most convenient airport, and where your Kansas City weekend will begin. AccommodationsKansas City holds many places close to our hearts. Below are three areas we recommend staying, each offering a slightly different way to experience the city we love. Option 1: Overland Park Hotel: Element Overland ParkDistance from Venue: ~24 minutes A block of rooms have been reserved at this hotel!<a href="https://app.marriott.com/reslink?id=1778522348680&amp;key=GRP&amp;app=resvlink" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Book your group rate for Segall - Klinker Wedding</a> This area is especially meaningful to us - it’s just steps from the very first place we ever lived together. It’s a cozy, welcoming neighborhood with tree-lined streets and plenty to explore within walking distance along 135th Street. You’ll find shops (don’t miss Made in KC at Prairiefire), great food and plenty of entertainment - BRKTHROUGH, Museum at Prairiefire, AMC movie theater, and Dave &amp; Buster's - all easy places to linger and enjoy the weekend. This option will also be less than 1 mile from our Saturday Wedding Weekend Welcome Party. Option 2: Country Club Plaza (A Classic Kansas City Stay)Distance from Venue: ~33 minutes For guests who want to immerse themselves in Kansas City’s charm and culture, the Country Club Plaza is a beautiful option. With its Spanish-inspired architecture, fountains, and iconic streets, it’s a romantic and lively place to stay. You’ll be close to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the setting of one of our very first dates and a place we return to often. If the weather is kind, a walk across the museum lawns or through Loose Park is one of our favorite simple pleasures. Evenings here can easily lead to great dining or a short drive to the KC Power &amp; Light District or the Crossroads Arts District. Option 3: Lee’s Summit (Where Our Hearts Are Now)Distance from Venue (from downtown): ~17 minutes If you’d like to experience the Midwest charm we’ve fallen in love with, consider staying in Lee's Summit or nearby. Downtown Lee’s Summit is quaint, warm, and full of personality - a place that truly feels like home to us. You’ll find sweet local shops, wonderful restaurants, and an easygoing pace that invites you to slow down. Our celebration will take place both indoors and outdoors and embraces all the best Sunday brunch vibes. October in Kansas can range from warm to cool, so we recommend semi-formal attire with layers you can easily add or remove. Comfortable footwear is encouraged, especially for outdoor spaces. Think polished but relaxed—tailored pieces, flowy dresses, light suits, and brunch-ready looks you can celebrate in all afternoon.
